Apple Sends Out Invites For October 16 iPad And Mac Event

Apple has just made official the event many were anticipating for October, at which it will likely debut new iPads and Macs, as well as launch the public version of OS X Yosemite, the latest update to its desktop operating system. It’ll happen October 16, and we’ll be there to bring you all the news as it happens.

The event will be taking place at Apple’s own Town Hall theater in Cupertino, at its corporate headquarters. This is the same venue where the iPhone 5s and 5c launch happened last year, and it’s a far cry smaller than the Flint Center for the Performing Arts where the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus launch took place last month. Apple also didn’t stream the last event it held at Town Hall, meaning this could be a more exclusive affair overall.

New devices and software coming at this event also aren’t likely to match the unveil of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, and the Apple Watch in terms of sheer impact, but we’re still hearing there will be plenty of new stuff to take in. That could include an iPad Air that manages to be even thinner than the current model. Other likely changes for iPads include spec improvements, with storage options likely to mirror those of the iPhone 6, and Touch ID integration for Apple Pay.

As for Macs, we could see the first Retina display desktop from Apple ever, in the form of a new iMac. This will likely be launched alongside Yosemite, which is definitely going to either ship immediately for consumers, or have availability announced for shortly after the event.

Regardless of what we see, it will definitely be a good show, so tune in back here for our coverage.
