Apartment listing startup Zumper has been trying to close the loop between apartment hunters and property managers by providing each with iOS apps for directly connecting with one another. Today, it’s greatly expanding the number of users who will be able to search for and discover possible places to live, thanks to the launch of a new consumer-facing Android phone and tablet app.
The company, which was a finalist at TechCrunch Disrupt a few years ago, wants to provide tools that connect people looking for an apartment with brokers and property managers who list them.
The first step in doing that was providing the folks doing apartment listings — landlords, property managers, and brokers –with a Pro tool for putting them online. Then it launched a consumer-facing iPhone app to give apartment hunters the ability to search and discover listings and directly connect them with brokers.
Zumper’s platform touts over 500,000 active rental listings, many of which are posted using its tools at the property itself. As a result, users see the most recent listings, and can even receive notifications for apartments that fit their search criteria as they come online.
In just three months since raising a $6.5 million Series A round of funding led by Kleiner Perkins, Zumper has seen its traffic increase 400 percent. But it expects an even bigger jump in the coming months, thanks to the launch of its Android app.
Obviously there are a ton of Android users out there, and many of them presumably live in apartments, or would like to. The new app will give Zumper coverage on the search side among all the major platforms — Web, iOS, and Android — and should increase the company’s monthly active users.
Now that Android search app is rolled out, the one final app piece the company is working on is a Zumper Pro version for Android, which will enable landlords and property managers and the like to list on both platforms as well.
That’s coming later this summer, according to CEO Anthemos Georgiades, and will likely result in even more listings, which will give both iOS and Android users more reason to use Zumper for their apartment hunt.
