Twitter Gains Another Googler, Former Managing Director Of Commerce In Asia Pacific, Aliza Knox

Twitter has hired away another Google employee, and this time it’s someone with a heavy focus on commerce. The Googler is Aliza Knox, who ran Business and Sales for Shopping, Offers and Wallet across Asia Pacific as Managing Director of Commerce. Knox has confirmed this with TechCrunch this evening.

Knox was the most senior woman at Google Asia Pacific, and we’re told that she will be Twitter’s first employee in Asia ex-Japan, based in Singapore.

This signals a few things for Twitter, including an interest in international expansion for partnerships and ad sales. Knox spent a bit over five years at Google in her current role. Previous to that, she was managing director of online sales for Asia Pacific for four years. This is the second Google hire for Twitter this week, the other being Nicole Wong. Both spent more than seven years with the company.

Knox recently spoke on Women Leadership, and is a phenomenal addition to Twitter, which seems to be forming the type of company that is getting ready for an IPO.

Additionally, it looks like she’s a fan of the hashtag on Twitter, as she recently tweeted a well-read story on the subject:

As Twitter starts adding more pieces to its team in the area of legal counsel, advertising and media, and fleshing out its team in San Francisco and internationally, the brighter its future is. This is a massive operation with a lot of moving parts, not just a little engine with a bunch of money anymore.
