PlaySpace Scores $1.9M To Expand Its Social Games To U.S., Latin America

PlaySpace, which develops social games for Spanish and Portuguese speakers, has scored a $1.9 million funding round led by PeopleFund, along with participation from the Spanish VC Faraday Ventures.

The company currently creates titles for Facebook and the Spanish social network Tuenti, but says it will soon be expanding to iOS and Android, and will use the new capital to improve its product, and to develop and launch new games, including expanding internationally. This will include bringing its portfolio to the U.S. and Latin America.

With 3 million users, PlaySpace claims to be the fastest growing developer of social and multi-player games for the Spanish and Portuguese speaking markets. Its games operate on a typical freemium model — free to play but with a virtual currency and in-game purchases generating revenue. Its portfolio includes games such as Parchis, Dominos, Luno, La Oca, Bingo and Chinchon.

PlaySpace was founded in 2011 by Alfonso Villar and incubated by Enrique Dubois of Mola.com. It has offices in Spain and Miami.
