New Models In Venture: Betaworks, Y Combinator Share What Works At Disrupt

There are a number of forces that led to the disruption of traditional venture capital, including new models like Betaworks, and startup incubator Y Combinator.

So who better to help lead the discussion on how the venture industry has been innovated upon than John Borthwick, CEO of Betaworks; and Harjeet Taggar, Partner at Y Combinator. And moderating this panel for TechCrunch is investor and entrepreneur Ron Palmeri, who actually launched his startup Prism Skylabs at Disrupt San Francisco a year ago. Palmeri also launched Grand Central (which was the foundation for Google Voice) and is the founder of MkII Ventures. We’ll be discussing how the venture landscape has evolved, the new models of venture that work and more.

John Borthwick

John Borthwick is CEO of betaworks. betaworks is new form of internet media company. Prior to betaworks John was Senior Vice President of Alliances and Technology Strategy for Time Warner Inc.

John’s company, WP-Studio, founded in 1994, was one of the first content studios in New York’s Silicon Alley. John holds an MBA from Wharton (1994) and an undergraduate degree BA in Economics from Wesleyan University (1987).

As an early stage product and markets guy, Ron launched a number of highly innovative companies, including Grand Central/Google Voice, OpenDNS, Scout Labs and Swivel as managing director of Minor Ventures.

As founder of MkII Ventures, Ron cofounded Prism Skylabs which is working to brings physical spaces online, creating new places for people and businesses to understand and engage each other.
